I have reached now week 37 in my pregnancy and surprisingly I am still feeling fit and strong enough to move and join some workout classes. Keeping fit throughout your pregnancy can benefit you especially in the last trimester when baby becomes heavier. The stronger your muscles are, the more flexible you are, it will make labor and childbirth easier on you mama!

Prenatal Yoga has become very popular amongst mamas in the past recent years. The gentle movements build strength and endurance, preparing you for your little bundle of joy and childbirth. Classes usually include breathing exercises, stretches and hip openers, all especially designed to keep mama and baby safe during your practice. In my pregnancy I have had the chance to join several different classes (I use Guava Pass) in Singapore and Jakarta and here are some of my favourite studios and classes.

Before joining any workout make sure with your doctor that you are fit to do so. Ask your OBGYN especially what workouts you can do and what to avoid.

Union Yoga in Dharmawangsa / Wijaya: Union Yoga offers prenatal classes 3 times a week for mamas-to-be in a relaxing, modern surrounding. Besides the prenatal classes I can also recommend therapeutic yoga classes for mamas. Going at a slower pace yet strong pace, this class is for mamas who seek deep stretches. Sana Studio Panglima Polim: I started with the Bump Class at Sana Studio early in my pregnancy and loved it. The class is a proper workout. Squads and muscle strengthening exercises to keep your booty in shape and at the same time building strength in your hips for the big push. Highly recommended for mamas who are seeking a proper intense workout! Another Plus: after birth you can bring your baby to the mum and bub class!

Gudang Gudang in Kemang: This studio is definitely a favourite amongst South Jakarta residents simply for its green serene setting in the midst of Jakarta's hustle and bustle. The studio is spacious and the class schedule range from prenatal, beginners to advanced.

Como Shambhala in Orchard: As soon as you step in you will feel like you entered a spa. The overall atmosphere sets you immediately in a positive and uplifting spirit which carried through the practice. The prenatal class is available from Monday-Friday at 11:00am, set with a slow pace and focused on stretches and soft poses for mama and baby.

Club Yoga in Clarke Quay: Although Club Yoga does not offer a prenatal class I highly recommend their Stretch and Gentle class. Especially the 45 minutes ones for all mamas who want a quick workout. I find the 45 minutes classes at a faster pace and leaving me personally with a more energized feeling afterwards. The studio itself is modern and clean, letting in a lot of daylight. Definitely one of my personal favourite. Find out more on www.clubyoga.sg

A-Space in Outram: For mamas who love Pilates you should give prenatal pilates at A-Space a try. This class is purposely designed to make women feel stronger and decrease the chances of any physical injury and common postural changes. Aiming to maintain mobility and a better recovery period for post pregnancy, conveniently located just a 5minute walk from Outram Park MRT station.

Yoga Mala in Boat Quay: The prenatal class in Yoga Mala is set at a slow pace, focusing on deep stretches and breathing techniques.

Whatever workout you try for yourself, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable. Always tell your instructor that you are pregnant so the movements will be safe for you and baby. Interested in trying out Guava Pass?  click here to get up to 75$SG off!
