The Twinnies at Oneroa Bay #20weeks - Mama's favorite beach in Waiheke

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Auckland, just a short 30 minutes ferry ride away, lies Waiheke Island, a little gem with serene bays, vineyards and majestic views - exactly what we were looking for after our days of sightseeing. Mama and Papa chose an airbnb up on a hill with priceless a view over the bay and for the next few days we just wanted to relax, eat and sit by the ocean.

Waiheke is a haven with its many vineyards and wineries which are mainly located up on hills and slopes, boasting breathtaking views over the bays of the island or even up to Auckland. For lunch we opted to visit the Casita Miro winery where we had a delicious seafood paella with some wine for papa and some water for mama of course. In the evening we went to the famous and much recommended Mudbrick winery which boasts an amazing view of Auckland city in the distance over sunset. Overall, food on the island is beyond delicious and even street-side shacks with fish and chips are a treat.

The "little" island is best explored by car or bicycle if you are up for it. We loved spending our days exploring the island and especially hanging out by the white sandy beaches, stretched around the bays for hundreds of meters, doing absolutely nothing. Besides wine being a produce in Waiheke we also found a boutique olive oil plantation and producer called Rangihoua Estate. The olive oil is produced on the island and a highly recommended stop on your Waiheke tour.
